Pre-Cut Bagels

I don't know whether my mum has stopped buying them or whether the supermarkets have stopped selling them, but I miss pre-cut bagels.

Simply put, they taste so much better. I'm never able to cut an un-pre-cut bagel right, it always ends up with two wedges or some other undesirable configuration of bagel 'halves'. This normally doesn't affect the toasting of the bagel (unless I'm having a particularly bad day). Once I'm eating it, though, I can't help thinking about how it would probably taste better if I'd cut it properly.

I just want to enjoy my bagel!

Why Democrats Should Support The Second Amendment

I have two reasons:

1. Do you really want to wait for George Bush to be impeached/voted out? Use your rights, people!
2. As a means of having it repealed by Republicans. Gather together all of those in your neighbourhood who are opposed to the Second Amendment and head down to the gun shop. Everyone buys a gun and, voila, you have The Democratic Militia. Now you just systematically hunt down any Republicans who supports the Second Amendment (ideally politicians at a high level but just go with the flow). Eventually they will have to repeal the Second Amendment before there is nothing left of their party! It can't fail!

Timothy And Chums

The Armadillo-9 (and, in fact, the whole of the range of Armadillo products) looks to be awesome. Too expensive, really, for me to buy one to play with (299 euros plus shipping from Germany plus currency conversion) but it looks like it has real potential for running low-intensity server stuff. It has an IDE port so hooking it up to a large HDD and using it as a Subversion, web and file server (all of which would be nice to have at home once I'm at uni) would be a possibility. Of course, I'd have to name it 'timothybert' on the network.

Warwick Accommodation

The first people to hear about their accommodation heard on Monday. As I obtained my place through Clearing, I wasn't expecting to hear immediately but it's now Friday. If I do get on-campus accommodation I'll be moving in in just over a fortnight.

If I don't, I need to find somewhere to live for over half of the next year in roughly the same period of time.



So, if any of the no people reading this blog currently have a bed going spare in a house within cycling/bussing distance of Warwick, please let me know, just in case.

Laptops Should Have a Video-In Socket

I had a great idea earlier:

Laptops should have a video-in socket, allowing you to use the screen while the computer itself remains unoperational.

I'm about to go to uni with my desktop. I'm also buying a laptop (well, my lovely parents are) so I can do stuff around and about on campus (without resorting to Windows, hopefully). This is all dandy.

However, whenever I'm using my desktop, my laptop will (hopefully) be sitting right next to it, unused. However, if the laptop had a video-in socket, then I could use it as a second screen, which would be wicked cool.

An alternative to this would be an open source project I stumbled over the other day, which allowed you to share keyboard and mouse between two computers connected only by Ethernet cables (and, presumably, IP). The names escapes me, but some Googling at a later date should bring it all back.
